RUSH Hair's Ben Russell has revelaed his top tips for going blonde

Summer is the perfect time to lighten your hair

If you’re going away to a hot summer destination then let the sun lighten your hair naturally, it’ll give you a gorgeous natural sun-kissed look. Just make sure to use a product containing a UV Filter to help protect the hair from sun damage – I’d recommend Kerastase Soleil Micro-Voile Protecteur (£8.50).

An in-depth consultation is key when having a change of hair colour

Make sure you discuss your options with your stylist who will be able to identify the right shade of blonde to match your skin/eye tone, hair type and hair care routine.

Going blonde will often require more frequent salon visits for root touch ups

Your stylist will be able to advise whether an all over cool blonde, highlighted style which will require more frequent salon visits or on trend ombre which requires minimal upkeep will work best for your lifestyle.

Blonde hair needs more TLC

Make sure you have a good hair care routine - your stylist will be able to advise the best professional products for you to keep your hair looking and feeling healthy. Blonde hair often needs specialised professional products, which will help enforce protein and offer the hair a moisture boost. Using a mask as a weekly treatment is a great way to ensure that the hair is maintains its condition.

Banish brassy tones and keep blonde hair looking clean with a silver shampoo

I recommend L’Oreal Profesionnel Serie Expert Silver Shampoo to all of my clients who have blonde hair, it’s great for clients who have really cool shades of blondes or can work as a weekly colour refresh to revive the colour and keep those yellow tones at bay.

There’s nothing better than blonde hair that is healthy and oozes shine

To keep your hair healthy and avoid damage you may need to go lighter gradually rather than in one appointment. Your stylist will be able to analyse your hair type and condition during the consultation stage and will determine the option to provide the best results for you colour wise and to maintain the condition of your hair.

Don’t rush in to lighten your hair

It’s better to go lighter gradually rather than risk damaging the condition of your hair.

Blonde hair can be more susceptible to dryness and frizz

The Rush Salon Silk & Gloss Multi Use Oil (£9.50) is a great multi-tasking product which helps to smooth and tame frizz, enhances shine whilst improving nutrition and rejuvenating dry ends with a blonde of Omega oils.

Change your make-up to match your new hair colour

It’s important to remember that when you change your hair colour you often need to change your beauty products to compliment your new look.

Don’t try and lighten your locks at home, always visit a salon

Not only can an ‘at home hair colour’ result in damaged hair, the colour itself can be uneven, which requires a trip to the salon to resolve the problem. Stylists at Rush Hair are trained in every aspect of hair from identifying the right shade to work for every individual to the best colour process to achieve the desired results.

Dry shampoo will hide roots

If you’ve recently gone blonde and your roots are starting to show but you can’t make it to the salon disguise your roots with a dry shampoo, Rush Salon Survive & Revive Dry Shampoo (£5.00) available can help to disguise roots whilst refreshing hair in between washes.
