New year, new… hair? If you're thinking about giving your look an update for 2018, and toying with the idea of a fringe, why not take inspiration from some of our favourite stars? Emma Watson recently unveiled her new hair, sharing a selfie on Instagram of her short, choppy fringe. Her Parisian-style look was an instant hit with her followers, who praised Emma's bold new beauty statement.

Before you take the plunge, think about exactly what you want and what will suit you. Take into account how thick your hair is and the shape of your face. Will you follow in the footsteps of the former Harry Potter star and go for blunt-cut bangs, or will you opt for a playful peek-a-boo fringe like Zooey Deschanel and Chrissy Teigen?

Side-swept fringes are also easy to pull off, with Dakota Johnson recently rocking a subtle one on the Golden Globes red carpet. Alex Jones is another fan of the side-swept look, while fellow presenter Claudia Winkleman is known for her trademark blunt bangs.

Which style will you go for?

The Fifty Shades of Grey actress always looks effortlessly chic, but we're loving her most recent red carpet look – a textured low ponytail with a long fringe at the front, plus a few loose strands around her face.

The former Dawson's Creek star recently went for the chop, and looks like a totally new person with her super short bob and sleek fringe.

The Strictly Come Dancing presenter has been rocking a fringe for as long as we can remember. She's gone through various lengths and styles, but her trademark look appears to be her blunt bangs, which frame her face perfectly. Her fringe, which is cut straight across her forehead, tends to stop at the eyebrows.

Naturally brunette Katy is nailing the blonde look. If anyone can pull off the pixie cut with blunt bangs, it's her.

The model never gets it wrong with her array of fringes, but we especially love her centre-parted bangs, which look great with hair down.

Ariana Grande

She may be known for her signature, slicked-back ponytail, but 24-year-old Ariana often likes to switch it up. She totally suits the heavy block fringe, which looks even better with a high pony.

The One Show presenter likes to frame her pretty face with a side-swept fringe, preferring to sweep her hair to her left. In November, the new mum revealed: "The fringe is back. Thanks to hair wizard Esther @beepershair. A much need cut and colour. Last had it done in April. I'm a disgrace, I know, especially as I'm on the telly, but I'm afraid haircuts and colour have fallen right to the bottom of the list of priorities over the last 9 months!! So nice to finally have it done!"

Shortly after announcing her second pregnancy, Chrissy had another big surprise for fans. She unveiled her new look on Instagram – a bluntly cut fringe, which had an overall choppy feel and bold texture. Celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin, who works with Khloé Kardashian, Jessica Alba, Katy Perry and Sofia Vergara, was the woman behind the bangs.

The model is rarely seen without a fringe. Our favourite style? Her eye-grazing thick bangs, paired with a messy up-do.

The Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two host has nailed the soft fringe look. Zoe looks great with her relaxed, wispy bangs which have a very subtle centre parting.

Kate has gone through phases of sporting a fringe, with her most memorable style dubbed the 'gringe' – essentially, a grown-out fringe. Her hairstylist Richard Ward created the look in 2015, explaining: "A longer, sweeping fringe is a great way to experiment without the risk factor of a complete restyle."

The New Girl actress has one of the prettiest faces on the small screen, and it's her loose and long fringe that's her defining trademark.
