Diets and healthy weight: Sacrifice and speed destroy diets

Denying your cravings for carbs when you're dieting can result in over-eating. A Canadian study showed that women who restricted their carb intake then ate more when they were instructed to than women whose diets restricted their protein intake or were not restricted at all – so allow yourself some of what you fancy to prevent bingeing. And go slowly, too. Another study, from the States, showed that women who ate slowly, chewing each mouthful up to 20 times and putting down their forks between bites, consumed fewer calories over a longer period than women who gulped down their food.
