Cycle your way to a healthier life

How your health and figure can benefit from cycling

There are, quite frankly, some exercises which are just not appealing.

But cycling is usually an enticing and pleasant sport for people of all ages. What’s more, it boasts a wealth of benefits for your health and your figure. Here are just a few:

• Cycling burns calories and therefore helps you lose weight.

• Along with running and swimming, cycling is one of the best ways to improve aerobic ability and endurance.

• It can improve lung and heart capacity and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. It also helps prevent conditions like hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes.

• Riding a bike tones your muscles, helping to develop the joints and muscles of your legs, hips and buttocks. It also reduces fat in the thighs and calves, prevents the joints from getting stiff, and helps improve posture and strength in the spinal column.

• It reduces stress. A bike ride is one of the most relaxing exercises around. The soft rythmn of the pedalling can, no doubt, relieve tension and relax you.

• It strengthens and increases your lung endurance and capacity. You’ll feel lighter and full of energy.

If you are convinced that cycling could be for you, make sure that you are well-prepared.

Get well-equipped

All you need are clothes made of a breathable fabric, leggings, a helmet and some sports shoes with rubber soles so that your feet won’t slip from the pedals. If you cycle outside, protect yourself against the sun and the wind by taking a pair of sunglasses, sunscreen, a bottle of water and a hand towel with you.

Don’t forget to warm up

Though cycling doesn’t require any special physical abilities, stretch before each ride to avoid cramps halfway through your journey. Pay special attention to warming up your legs, buttocks, lower back and neck. Don’t rush it, though. Try to increase the intensity little by little in order to give your body time to prepare for a more difficult work-out.

Cycling’s many benefits, along with the fact that it’s a fun exercise and that we can practice on holiday, make it the perfect way to stay in shape. Ready to start?
