Since having baby Roman Ravello in March last year with fiancé Ryan Thomas, former The Only Way is Essex star Lucy Mecklenburgh has learnt to juggle looking after a newborn and running her successful fitness app Results Wellness Lifestyle against the backdrop of a global pandemic. Despite the challenge of being a new mum without the usual physical support of her friends and family, the 29-year-old has remained positive and gained a whole new respect for her post-baby body.

“I didn’t appreciate what it could do before and how amazing it is,” Lucy says. “I don’t know if it’s my relationship with fitness or my relationship with my body in general that’s changed. I always used to have goals of being the fittest and leanest, but now it really is about happiness. I train and eat well to be healthy and happy and I don’t put as much pressure on myself as I used to pre-baby.”

“Now I really like a variety [of different workouts], because I get bored of doing the same thing. My favourite workout is HIIT, then pilates and barre. Walking has also been a godsend in lockdown with a baby. It’s been so important to get some fresh air and a change of scenery.”

In terms of her post-baby diet, Lucy has been quite relaxed, and says that she “lives by the 80/20 rule which means 80% of the time I stick to a balanced diet with loads of colour, fruit, veg, proteins and carbs. At the moment, I’m also taking the Vitabiotics Pregnacare Breastfeeding Multi-Vitamin. Then on a Friday or Sunday night, if I want a takeaway or a chocolate cake, I just go for it!”

She added, "it’s just about balance and finding what works for you. Some people like structure and calorie counting and if that works for you then great! But for me, it’s all about everything in moderation and making sure I get loads of healthy, nutritious foods."

Having transformed her workout routines after giving birth, the TV star has incorporated more flexible exercises into her routine. She adds, “I’ve taken over the pre-and post-natal sections on Results Wellness Lifestyle now - it was something I could never get involved in before, but I’ve taken away structured plans and made more video plans so you can pick what you feel like, no pressure.”
