'Sandbagging' is the latest make-up craze that's been sweeping the world of beauty. Reportedly created by Kim Kardashian's make-up artist Mario Dedivanovic to keep the reality TV star's make-up in place, this technique involves using loose powder around the eyes and lips to ensure that your beauty products' colours don't smudge.

Taking a closer look at the trend, make-up guru Wayne Goss delighted beauty bloggers when he shared a tutorial on YouTube in which he revealed his top tips for mastering the simple yet effective hack – scroll below to see the full video.

Wayne explained that the 'sandbag technique' aims to keep eye kohl pencils, eyeshadows and gel liners in place, while also creating "another highlight in the face". "What we're trying to do is a create a dam beneath your lower lash line," he said, adding that this was the same principle as using sandbags to prevent water from flooding into houses.

The tool kit:

All you'll need to recreate this look is a loose powder, and a make-up sponge. Wayne advises using a powder "with a bit of colour" to "create that really beautiful highlight".

How to master the trend:

1. As sandbagging involves a step of highlighting, you want to ensure you've already applied your base everyday makeup, such as foundation – particularly if you're contouring.

2. Using the sponge, begin by dabbing the powder as close to your lower lash line as possible. Keep slowly building up the product coverage, for a highlighter effect at the same time.

3. Leave the powder on the skin to absorb any excess oil, and then start working on your eye make-up, ideally beginning with your eyeshadow. Once you're finished, brush off the excess powder.
