Lea's new tattoo is a touching tribute to Cory

The actress chose a simple yet striking design for the tattoo dedicated to Cory, opting to have the number five inked onto her skin. The artwork is particularly poignant as during his time with Lea on Glee, Cory played Finn, an American football player in school whose team number was five.

"And one my quarterback.. #5," she simply captioned a black-and-white snap of the design, shared with her three million followers.

Lea and Cory were dating when he tragically passed away in 2013

During the same session at Prospect Tattoos in New York, Lea unveiled another tattoo, this time in honour of her grandmother. The Scream Queens actress explained that her grandmother had tragically passed away earlier in the week, in a heartfelt post which she shared on Instagram.

CELEBRITY TATTOOS: A LOOK AT THE STARS' INKINGS

"I lost my beautiful grandma this week," she explained to her fans. "She wasn't your typical grandma. She gave me my first cup of coffee when I was 8 years old. She said something inappropriate to every boyfriend I've ever had. She never made pie or knit me a sweater. But she was my grandma and I loved her... More than anything.. I love you Grandma. @prospect_tattoos Bronx NY."

Lea also had an inking done in memory of her grandmother

The minimalist design, also on the side of one of her fingers, depicts a small cup of hot coffee – no doubt a tribute to the memorable moment Lea explained that she shared with her grandmother.

It's no doubt been an emotional few weeks for Lea, who also split from boyfriend Matthew Paetz earlier this year. A source close to the couple told People, "Lea is surrounded by her friends, who have rallied around her and support her. She's doing fine, focusing on her work, her music and her album."
