Miley Cyrus debuted a new tattoo on Sunday, sparking speculation that the inking is a tribute to boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. The 23-year-old has opted for an inking of a Vegemite jar, a popular Austalian snack, in what could be a nod to Liam's Australian heritage.

Choosing to get the new artwork on her shoulder, Miley turned to celebrity tattoo artist Doctor Woo, who has previously worked with stars including Ellie Goulding and Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer.

The artist took to Instagram to give his followers a first glimpse at the We Can't Stop hitmaker's new design, sharing a black-and-white close-up snap of Miley as she hid her face behind her arm. "@mileycyrus don't play when it comes to #vegemite #halfneedle," he captioned the photo.

Miley and Liam were engaged in 2012

Liam and Miley rekindled their romance earlier this year, after celebrating the New Year together in Australia. The couple had initially dated and got engaged in 2012, however they surprised fans when they announced their split a year later.

Liam has since defended his decision to propose to the Hannah Montana star at the time. "I don't think that was impulsive," the Hunger Games actor told News.com.au. "That was a well thought-out idea."

Liam described the couple's break-up as "hard"

He later echoed those words in an interview with GQ Australia where he opened up about his relationship with Miley.

"I make my decisions about what's going to make me happy, what I think is right and what I want to do," he said. "And I don't worry too much outside of that."

The Dressmaker star also spoke candidly about the couple's break-up in 2013, admitting that it was "hard".

He said: "Of course it was hard. But at the time we were going in different directions and it's just what needed to happen. We were both super young and it was a good decision at the time – we both needed that."
