Forget contouring or strobing, this season it's all about channelling your inner English rose and mastering the fresh-faced rosy cheeks look with 'draping'. This must-try trend involves using blusher to sculpt your face and enhance your features, and has already become a firm favourite on the catwalks including Chanel and Marc Jacobs, as well as celebrities such as Miranda Kerr.

We take a look at what you need to know in order to master the look…

Go for barely-there make-up

The blusher alone will make for a striking finish, but if you team it with too much other make-up you could end up looking like you've suffered a beauty mishap. Stick to a hint of mascara and minimal make-up for your base – if you're suffering from blemishes, try using just a concealer where they appear rather than covering your entire face.

Apply around the cheekbones only

The aim of draping is to highlight and contour, so blend just below and above your cheekbones, then around the eye area to get the effect. Try not to stray from these areas or you will run the risk of undoing the effect and being left with blusher overload.

Build up the colour

Too much blusher could leave you looking more red-faced than rosy pink, so gently build up the colour as you go. Apply a light layer and blend, then keep repeating until you have the desired effect – use two different brushes to avoid extra powder making its way into the look.

Match your lips to your blusher

If you're after a glamorous daytime look, opt for a lipstick that matches your shade of blusher as closely as possible. Not only will this make the colour really pop, but with slightly bolder hues you can have a statement evening look too.
