Four-time Olympian Chemmy Alcott tells how her secret wish has come true – she is expecting a baby boy!

Chemmy and her husband, former ski champion Dougie Crawford, have announced to HELLO! Online that they are expecting a son. "I totally welled up as being the youngest of three with two older brothers, I was hoping secretly for a boy," she said.

Chemmy, 34, who is Britain's most successful female alpine skier, decided to find out the sex of their baby, due on January 1st, at the 20-week scan. "Normally we love surprises but because of when I am due and the fact that Dougie will be away running our ski camps for two weeks before and a week after, discovering the sex of the baby was something we wanted to enjoy together," said Chemmy, who is preparing to give birth without Dougie at her side.

Becoming a mum is unlikely to slow down the skier who represented TeamGB throughout a 20-year-sporting career and is used to speeding downhill at 80mph.

"I will be a better mother if I am following my passion, which is to be out there in the mountains," she said, adding: "I have been so lucky that so far – except from struggling to put my shoes on – I have been able to stay as active as ever."

Chemmy will be working right up to a week before the baby is due, on the Ski World Cup commentating for Eurosport – "Won't that be interesting if my waters break live on air!" – and said she is getting ready for life as a mum.

"I feel like the baby is already trying to prepare us for sleepless nights because all day whilst I am working he is serene and then at night he comes alive!" she said. Check out Chemmy's Mum2Be blog on her official Facebook page.
