Mark shared a lovely black and white photo of their family on Thanksgiving

The internet guru has said he will take two months paternity leave. He explained his decision in a Facebook post about preparing for a new arrival. Mark, 31, said they had were excited to be starting a family and had been picking out their favourite childhood books and toys.

He added: "Studies show that when working parents take time to be with their newborns, outcomes are better for the children and families."

The couple got married three years ago in a simple ceremony in their back garden. Mark presented his bride, whom he met at Harvard, with a ruby sparkler that he designed himself.

Announcing news of the pregnancy in July, Mark said: "This will be a new chapter in our lives.

"We've already been so fortunate for the opportunity to touch people's lives around the world – Cilla as a doctor and educator, and me through this community and philanthropy. Now we'll focus on making the world a better place for our child and the next generation."

He went on to say that the miscarriages had been "a lonely experience", adding that they had decided to speak out to give hope to other couples in a similar situation.

In September, Mark and Priscilla celebrated the pregnancy during a surprise baby shower organised by students that he mentors. His young friends had made a pink sash for his wife, while he was forced to wear a necklace featuring a dummy.

Party games included making the parents-to-be feed each other blindfold, an exercise that Mark joked "did not go well".

They were also given a handmade quilt featuring pink hearts. In the caption that went alongside pictures he posted the Facebook founder had written: "So much love and so much fun".
