Congratulations to Eddie Redmayne and Hannah Bagshawe, who have welcomed their first child together. Hannah gave birth to a baby girl on Wednesday, and the new parents have named their daughter Iris May Redmayne, a spokesperson has confirmed.

It was revealed in December that Eddie and Hannah were set to become first-time parents, with the couple said to be "extremely excited" about their new arrival.

The Danish Girl actor confirmed the news on the Golden Globes red carpet in January, with Hannah by his side. Hannah continued to support Eddie on the red carpet throughout awards season, sharing only a glimpse at her blossoming bump in a number of loose-fitting gowns.

Like any first-time parent, Eddie admitted to being intimidated by "pretty much every element" of parenthood. Speaking to E! News on the SAG Awards red carpet, Eddie said: "We started looking at the logistics and all the lists of things you're meant to get before you go into hospital and that's a long list of stuff right there."

When asked which aspect of becoming a father felt most "alien" to him, Eddie replied: "Do you know what? Pretty much every element of it."

He continued: "We have this dream of wooden toys and all that. Everyone's like, 'You always start like that and you end up with iPhones."

Eddie and Hannah tied the knot in December 2014 at the exclusive venue Babington House in Somerset. The Eton-educated actor had proposed to his long-term girlfriend during a holiday that summer, following a two-year relationship.

Fatherhood is not the only big role Eddie is taking on this year; he also plays the lead role in Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, set for release in November.
