"She's here!" the 42-year-old captioned the snap, before revealing the name that she and husband Mario 'Souleye' Treadway had chosen for their little girl. "Onyx solace morissette-treadway June 23 2016 #beyondblessed."

Fans were surprised to discover that the star had given birth last month, as she kept the news notoriously quiet.

A week after her daughter's arrival, the Ironic hitmaker had wowed her fans with a breathtaking pregnancy photo, taking to Instagram to post a serene underwater snapshot which saw her posing naked and submerged in a pool, her baby bump central to the picture.

At the time, the star gave no indication that she and husband Mario had welcomed their second child, instead simply captioning the snap with a sweet quote attributed to the couple's five-year-old son Ever Imre.

"You have to be extra gentle around ladies because they are the most helpful people in the world 'cause they make persons," she wrote.

Mario and Alanis are already parents to five-year-old son Ever

The songstress first announced her pregnancy in February with a special animated video and song for husband Mario, which ends with the couple and their son looking at ultrasound images of the newest addition to their family.

"The story of my nuclear family in moving pictures, brings us up to this sweet moment," she wrote alongside the clip. "May this song take on ever-deepening meaning as each year goes by."

Alanis - a big advocate of attachment parenting - has previously opened up about raising little Ever. "He's amazing. He's just coming into his own," she told Us Weekly. "We're having real bona fide philosophical conversations. About anything – about aliens, about the galaxy, about what God is, about animals. You just cross your fingers behind your back and you hope you don't blow it."
