Congratulations to Sir Ben Ainslie and his wife Georgie, who have welcomed their first child together. The couple announced the happy news on Thursday, and shared the first photo of their bundle of joy, who they have named Bellatrix.

The image was originally shared on the Twitter account for Ben's sailing team Land Rover Bar, along with the message: "Congratulations @AinslieBen @OfficiallyGT on the birth of your beautiful baby Bellatrix #BringTheBabyHome."

The black-and-white image shows the proud parents sitting in what appears to be their hospital room with baby Bellatrix lying on Georgie's lap. Both Georgie and Ben look ecstatic, with the Olympian seen gazing proudly down at his baby girl, who is clasping his finger.

CELEBRITY BABIES DUE IN 2016

Sir Ben later shared the same image on his own Twitter account with the caption "#proudestday", while Georgie told fans: "Our little star has arrived. Here she is with very proud Mummy and Daddy… Bellatrix Ainslie. #bringthebabyhome."

Sports reporter Georgie and sailing champion Ben married at Hampton Court Palace in London in December 2014 after less than two years of dating. The couple had been acquaintances for many years but didn't start dating until April 2013, when she said the "stars aligned and it made sense to be together".

"We met through friends at an event and I don’t really know how to describe it. It was a bit of a thunderbolt moment but a thunderbolt that took years before it became anything real." Georgie told the Daily Mail in 2013.  "We were in different places, but then in April the stars aligned and it made sense to be together and we haven’t looked back since. It’s very special… he makes me very happy."

Sir Ben won't be able to take too long out with his baby girl as he is due to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to Portsmouth on Sunday for the America's Cup World Series. Kate is Royal Patron of the 1851 Trust, which is supported by Ben Ainslie Racing.
