This is how a beauty influencer REALLY spends her day

In partnership with Caudalie

As a Beauty Influencer for HELLO! magazine, no day is the same for me. One minute I'll be sitting at my desk writing about the latest lipstick or must-have skincare ingredient, and the next I'll be in the studio shooting a new mascara advert or attending a launch for a new cosmetics line… It's exciting, varied and heaps of fun – read on to find out more…

7.30am

My alarm goes off and I curse it (why does waking up never get any easier?!). After two rounds of snoozing, I give in and grab my phone to check emails and scroll through Instagram.

In the shower, I reach for a cleanser to perk up my skin and make it feel fresh for the day ahead. I'm currently testing Caudalie's new Instant Cleansing Foam – I have dry skin so normally stick to oil cleansers, but this new offering is ideal as the formula is gentle and soap-free… It feels like you're giving your face a good cleanse without stripping away any of the natural oils (none of that tight, squeaky feeling). The ingredients are also 98 per cent naturally derived, so I know I'm being kind to my skin.

After cleansing, I layer up serums containing hyaluronic acid – a naturally occurring molecule that hydrates skin by holding water – and finish off with SPF and a moisturiser that provides protection against pollution. This is essential for urban skin, and my current favourite is the Caudalie 3-in-1 Moisturiser, which provides eight hours of anti-pollution protection thanks to powerful anti-oxidants Vitamin C and polyphenols.

Applying my make-up normally takes around 10 minutes – my everyday, go-to look is CC cream, lots of bronzer and mascara – and I'll normally throw on a pair of trousers, boyfriend jumper and heels.

9am

The day starts with an event to find out more about an exciting new product or a meeting with a beauty PR. I try my hardest to stick to meals that are low in sugar - while delicious, it is terrible for your skin as it breaks down collagen - and high in good fats. Like everyone else in the world, I love avocado, so I'll generally have that smashed on rye bread with poached egg. Once I’m done with meetings, I’ll head to the HELLO! office to pull together a feature on a new beauty trend.

1pm

As far as food is concerned, I have zero chill, so I rarely wait even one minute past 1pm to eat lunch. At the office, I normally have a veggie pot or a Thai curry but if I’m eating out with a PR, I’ll have a salad with goat’s cheese and parma ham.

3pm

I often do expert and celebrity interviews so I’ll head to a hotel armed with questions and a dictaphone. I recently interviewed Jen Atkin, hairdresser to the entire Kardashian-Jenner clan. She told me that the best way to create beach waves is to curl the hair into a diffuser and leave for a few seconds - I’ve been doing it ever since!

If I’m spending the afternoon in the office, I’ll sort through new products we’ve been sent and snack on any goodies that have arrived for the beauty team.

6pm

Many of my evenings are spent at beauty events, generally a dinner to celebrate a new product launch. I update my look from day to night by adding ankle boots, a cute jacket and a pink lip and head to a hotel or swanky restaurant to catch up with fellow beauty editors and learn about the latest, cutting-edge products (I’m the world’s biggest beauty junkie so this is my favourite part of the job).

9pm

By the time I get home, I am itching to take my make-up off! I’m really into my skincare and I take great pleasure in my night-time regime. I always double cleanse - I believe that you need two cleanses to ensure all impurities and make-up are completely removed from the skin. I’ve been using the new Caudalie Makeup Removing Cleansing Oil to remove my make-up - it’s a luxurious oil that manages to dislodge even the toughest and heaviest of eye make-up. I have been following it with the Foaming Cleanser to really ensure the skin is totally clean before using a product containing lactic acid to gently exfoliate and resurface the skin and finish off with a mild retinol and a hyaluronic acid serum. Post-regime, I get straight into bed and I’d like to say I read a book… But, if I’m being totally honest, I’ll tend to watch an episode of a Real Housewives franchise (I love them all) with my two fluffy rag doll cats and ring my boyfriend to say night.
