It's not just films that score highly with the viewing public. We all appreciate looking ready for our close-up and there are some products that seem to go straight to the top of the charts when it comes to giving us the edge.
And even though we're still only just into 2009, some of those frontrunners are already starting to emerge:
For softer skin
As the most intensive winter formula it's ever created, Nivea's SOS Body Relief Lotion, £5.24, has been flying off the shelves since its recent launch. With lots of panthenol and calendula oil, it helps to quench, soothe and smooth skin that's dehydrated from cold weather and moisture-sapping central heating. In tests on 160 women, 89 per cent said it made skin feel smooth and supple, with the same number agreeing that it's particularly suited to very dry skin.
For bigger eyes
One of the most interesting developments in mascara is Estee Lauder's TurboLash All Effects Motion Mascara, £27.40. It promptly sold out when it first launched in Harrods last summer, and continued to do so every time stock was renewed until it went nationwide this month. As the world's first vibrating mascara, it can coat every lash fully and repeatedly, thanks to the continued separating action to apparently help deliver volume, length, definition, separation and curl in one tube – and it's safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers.
For smoother lines
Since its launch in France at the end of last year, RoC Retin-Ox Wrinkle Filler, £29.95, has been selling at a rate of almost one a minute to become the brand's fastest selling product.
