Use a foot file after bathing to help get your feet in shape for the summer months

Now we’re all thinking of getting our feet looking summer–ready for the strappy sandal season – a la Victoria Beckham and Liz Hurley - it’s time to get rid of all that hard skin that will have built-up while our feet have been in hibernation over winter.

But don’t go reaching for the pumice stone, says Michael O’Neill of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists.

“They’ve probably been sitting on the edge of the bath for years and when they’ve been used before, dead skin will have been pushed inside the stone, providing a breeding ground for bacteria, which can spread athlete’s food and veruccas,” he says.

He recommends using a foot file instead and filing away at hardened skin for three or four minutes after a bath everyday for a week to get feet soft and ship-shape for summer.
