Audrey Hepburn named most iconic beauty of all time in Big British Beauty Poll

It’s one of the biggest beauty polls ever conducted in the UK. More than 20,000 women, aged between 18 and 65, jumped at the chance to air their views on everything - from Botox and cosmetic surgery to spending habits and ultimate beauty icons – in a special survey conducted by Olay.

And now the results are in, and they give some interesting insights into what British women really think about beauty…

Iconic beauty
Ladies voted in their droves to name classic starlet Audrey Hepburn the most iconic beauty of all time. She was followed by Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and Twiggy. Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston and Cheryl Cole were the most popular modern faces in the top ten.

Trust and clinical proof matter
Asked 'What makes you trust an anti-aging skincare product?', 65 per cent of women voted for 'Trusted brand name'. 62 per cent said they would choose a product that had been 'Clinically proven to work through research' while women ranked celebrity endorsement as a much lower factor.

Forget hair, it’s a good skin day
Half of all the women asked said that youthful skin was the most important beauty attribute. Less than 10 per cent voted for a toned body, bright eyes, shiny hair or teeth as their number one choice.

Bye bye Botox
Is the age of Botox is over. When asked about anti-ageing treatments, 67 per cent of the women said they would choose anti-ageing facials, followed by microdermabrasion, facial peels, laser resurfacing and cosmetic surgery. Botox received just 21 per cent of the vote.

Wrinkle worries
For the British woman, wrinkles are their major ageing concern, with 34 per cent saying it's those tell-tale lines that matter most when it comes to growing old. Closely following in second place was a sagging jaw line which received 31 per cent of the total, while crow's feet, age spots and laughter lines also featured.

In the money
Asked 'How much would you estimate you spend on beauty products each month', the average spend across all the age groups was £23 (not including salon treatments). This figure decreased over the age of 44.

How much is too much?
The majority of women said the most they've spent on an anti-ageing skincare product is £30-£30.99. Less than 10 per cent said they would spend more than £50.

Time of my life
When it comes to the time when they felt most confident and happy in their own skin, 36.8 per cent of women voted for their 30s, while 30.2 per cent said their 20s and 19 per cent their 40s.
