Nightly cleansing – essential for healthy skin

Basic beauty depends on simple routines

Sometimes you're so tired at the end of the day that you just want to go to bed and forget about your cleansing routine. It's a big temptation – after all, can one day make that much difference? Well, maybe not, but it's the start of a slippery slope. And if you want to avoid pimples and blemishes, your skin really does need you to care for it.

Why does it matter?
Not only do you need to remove all traces of your makeup, but if you've been out and about all day, there will be a build up of dust and dirt from the atmosphere, as well as the natural oils your skin produces. If you don't cleanse your skin properly, all of this can end up blocking the pores and causing blackheads, pimples and other blemishes.

Choose a gentle cleansing product – harsh products that strip away the natural oils and leave your complexion feeling taut and raw can cause flaking or provoke a defensive reaction meaning your skin produces more oil then ever. Focus on the oiliest areas such as the nose and the T-zone, and be wary of exfoliating too much or too often, particularly if you've been out in the sunshine, as your skin may already be irritated. As long as you keep to your daily cleansing routine, you shouldn't need to take any extreme steps.
