There's nothing worse than looking after your skin all year, only to find your complexion is dry and chapped as soon as the cold weather sets in. But with a good skincare regime all year long, you can prevent that from ever happening. We spoke to Stacey Whittaker, crowned Scotland's best make-up artist, about her tips for looking after dry skin.

First up, cleansing and moisturising. "Be sure to cleanse your face and apply your chosen moisturiser straight away to give it a chance to sink in before applying your make-up," Stacey told us. "Despite your skin being dry and more sensitive it is still important to exfoliate to gently buff away dead skin cells.

Adding this step into your skin care regime will also help your foundation sit better on the skin as you will have a smooth, even textured base. Use a gentle exfoliator once or twice a week after cleansing or use an exfoliating toner daily such as the cult Pixi Glow Tonic. This will also help even your skin tone and reduce redness so it is a win win!"

It's also a good idea to use a rich, creamy eye treatment in the morning and evening to combat dryness and also reduce puffiness and dark circles. Stacey adds that it's essential to use a lip scrub to get rid of chapped skin and keep lips soft and supple – ready for your favourite lipstick. On the make-up front, Stacey suggests using a richer foundation for dry skin, "as this will hydrate your skin as opposed to sheer formulas that may dry your skin out even more". "It is also best to use cream-based products as powders can dehydrate your skin. Opt for a cream blush and highlighter to add a dewy finish," she smiled.
