24 SEPTEMBER 2002
A police investigation has been launched into whether two sisters of the Mexican singer-actress Thalia have been kidnapped, after their car was found abandoned at the weekend on the Mexico City highway. Also found nearby was another vehicle which one of the sisters, Laura Sodi, had reported stolen several months ago.

Laura is also an actress and singer like her hugely successful sibling: she goes by the stage name of Laura Zapata and, along with Thalia, starred in the popular TV series Maria Mercedes and Rosalinda. The other missing sister is Ernestina Sodi.

There has been no comment from the family on the situation. Thalia, who is married to Sony chairman Tommy Mottola, performed last Wednesday at the Latin Grammys in Los Angeles.
