The Lido in Paris was responsible for Kylie's feather head-dress, but a designer corset which reduced the singer's waist to an incredible 16 inches was the most eagerly anticipated garment in her tour wardrobe

Kylie Minogue brought a touch of Las Vegas glamour to the city of Glasgow this weekend. The diminutive songbird put on a dazzling performance for her Scottish fans when her Showgirl world tour kicked off in the SECC Arena.

The 37-year-old was met by a deafening roar of applause when she emerged onto the stage in a jewel-encrusted gown by John Galliano. And the flamboyant designer wasn't the only big name to lend his talent to the show; Karl Lagerfeld and Julien McDonald also pitched in.

Perhaps the most spectacular contribution was the huge feathered head-dress supplied by the Lido in Paris. But the most eagerly anticipated garment had to be the designer corset, made by the famous Mr Pearl, which reduced Kylie's waist to an eye-popping 16 inches.

The Showgirl Tour, with its 1-million Art Deco stage, will be travelling across Britain and Europe before heading to Australia and the Far East. The inimitable Ms Minogue says it is a celebration of her 17 years at the top of the charts.

"This is my way of saying thank you and of sharing some of the most important moments of my journey so far," she said. "It's been so much fun putting the show together. It has taken just under a year to design and build, but it has been a lifetime in the making."
