17 FEBRUARY 2009
It is news that will be music to the ears of Michael Jackson fans everywhere. More than 2,000 items from the singer's Neverland Ranch - from costumes and personal effects through to his art collection - are going under the hammer in April in the first ever auction of its kind.

Among the pieces up for grabs are the iconic white jewelled glove the singer wore in the music video for Billie Jean, and the entrance gates to his famous Californian property.

Lots also include marble busts, a huge statue of Prometheus and portraits of the 50-year-old musician.

There are so many items up for sale, including a 1911 edition of Peter Pan, that the lots are listed in a six-volume catalogue. To give a potential purchasers a taste of what's coming up at the five-day auction in Beverly Hills, some of the items are also being sent on tour to London and Dublin in March.

"We have been closely working with him for five months and he is completely in control of this," says Darren Julien, the Los Angeles-based auctioneer co-ordinating the sale.
