Russell Brand gets the blessing of Katy Perry's devout Christian parents

With her sexy stage outfits and provocative lyrics it is easy to forget Katy Perry's religious background. But both her parents are devout Christian pastors who serve as travelling evangelists, holding sermons across America.

So it was certainly surprising to hear that the I Kissed A Girl singer has introduced her mum and dad to her boyfriend – famed lothario Russell Brand – and they have given him the thumbs-up.

Keith and Mary Hudson have not only met the comedian but they are now on a getting-to-know-you holiday with the couple in Austria. Speaking at The Way Family Church in California before the trip, Katy's mother revealed to the Sun she has also read Russell's autobiography My Booky Wook.

"There are parts of Russell's book where he's really hungry for positive influences in his life," she said. "I think the two of them are hungry. They are basically looking for God and they are seeking the truth – and they are going to find it."

Husband Keith added: "Russell's really got a hunger for the supernatural. He's got a real spiritual hunger. Russell really likes us because he has a whole new different concept on Christianity now that he has met us."

The couple even discussed the possibility of marriage between their pop star daughter, 25, and the 34-year-old comedian, although said they wouldn't conduct the service themselves.

"I think Katy would probably use another one of our pastor friends, because her dad would get really emotional and would want to take her down the aisle," said Mary.

The Hot N Cold star's parents also revealed what they really think of their girl's raunchy image. Keith revealed: "People say, 'What do you think about Katy?'…'Why did Katy sing that song, I Kissed A Girl?'

"And I say, 'I don't know. Why does a duck stand on one leg and go quack? ...I don't know about kissing a girl, but I kissed God and I liked it better'."

Katy, Russell, her parents, her brother David and sister Angela are currently in Ischgl in Austria where the singer performed in the ski resort's season-opening concert.
