'I couldn't stop them': Nadine Coyle admits she didn't want Girls Aloud to split

Nadine Coyle has revealed that the decision behind Girls Aloud's split was not a unanimous one. The Northern Irish singer admitted she wanted the five-piece to keep going, telling fans she "couldn't stop them" from going their separate ways.

The star, who has been somewhat distanced from the group in recent years after moving to LA, took to Twitter following the girl group's final reunion tour date in Liverpool on Wednesday evening.

"You should know by now I had no part in any of this split business," she wrote on Thursday afternoon. "I couldn't stop them. I had the best time & want to keep going".

With the writing already on the wall ahead of their last gig, Nadine shared a series of tweets suggesting Girls Aloud were disbanding for good.

"I love you @GirlsAloud fans so so so so so much! You have given me everything! Thank you, thank you, thank you! All the hair flips, twisted ankles, early mornings, late nights, sore throats, tears & facing height fears are all to try and given you the show you deserve!," she tweeted.

"I have seen many of you at the tour work as hard as us. That is why I cried last night on stage & probably again tonight.

"Not sad, happy… Happy tears, I cannot thank you enough. I love seeing all your faces. Ok more tears. I love you all forever xxxx NC"

Following the Echo Arena concert in Liverpool, Girls Aloud posted a statement on their official Twitter account announcing their split.

"Dear Alouders, we just want to say from the bottom of our hearts, thank you!! This tour has been an amazing experience and the perfect chance to say thank you for being on this journey with us through a decade.

"It has far exceeded any of our dreams and we hope we are forever for inspiration and reminder that dreams really do glitter!! Your love and support will stay with us forever but we now come to the end of our incredible time together. Love you lots."

The girls - Nadine, Cheryl Cole, Nicola Roberts, Sarah Harding and Kimberley Walsh - reunited for the 12 date tour to celebrate their tenth anniversary at the end of February, following three years working on solo projects.
