One of British TV's most prolific stars, Dublin-born actor Stanley got to return to his roots when he landed the role of an Irishman in BBC racehorse drama Rough Diamond. It's a rare departure for the thespian, who portrayed the former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in 2007's Saddam's Tribe, as he hardly ever uses his native accent. After two decades in the business Stanley has appeared in almost every high-profile series going, from Spooks and Hustle to Casualty and Jonathan Creek. And he has an equally hefty set of film titles to his name having racked up 14 credits, including The Nativity Story and The Libertine. An acclaimed stage thesp he was awarded a best actor gong for his portrayal of a grieving widower in the Conor McPherson play Shining City.
