Eddie Redmayne OBE is an English actor, who has received various accolades for his performances, including the 2014 film, The Theory of Everything.

Eddie Redmayne's early life

Eddie was born on 6 January, 1982, the son of a London banker. At Eton he was in the same year as Prince William, whom he describes as "a wonderful man". From there, he went on to read History of Art at Cambridge University and graduated with 2:1 Honours in 2003.

Eddie Redmayne's acting career

Before leaving university, Eddie made his professional stage debut as Viola in Twelfth Night at the Middle Temple Hall in 2002, for which he won Outstanding Newcomer at the 50th Evening Standard Theatre Awards in 2004. From there, his career went from strength to strength and he went on to win an Olivier Award and a Tony Award for his performance in John Logan's 2009 play, Red.

Film roles followed in The Other Boleyn Girl, My Week with Marilyn and Jupiter Ascending. One of the actor's most notable roles was playing Stephen Hawking in the 2014 film, The Theory of Everything, for which he won the Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor. Eddie spent four months researching: he met patients with ALS, the same neurological condition as the renowned physicist, worked tirelessly with a choreographer on how to represent his physical decline and read up on science. 

Eddie also received critical acclaim for his role in the biographical drama, The Danish Girl, in which he played transgender pioneer Lili Elbe.

The actor went on to appear in a range of successful movies and shows, including the Harry Potter prequel franchise, Fantastic Beasts, as well as The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Netflix's The Good Nurse.

Eddie Redmayne's personal life

Eddie is married to Hannah Bagshawe, whom he met whilst attending Eton College. The couple tied the knot at Babington House in Somerset on 15 December 2014.

The following year, Eddie was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2015 Birthday Honours for services to drama.

In 2016, Eddie and Hannah welcomed their first child, a daughter named Iris. Their son Luke arrived in 2018.
