Yorkshireman Jeremy began his career as a roving reporter covering the problems in Northern Ireland, followed by stints on Tonight, Panorama and the BBC Six O'Clock News. He joined Newsnight in 1989, and went on to give politicians such as Michael Howard the full Paxman treatment - winning awards in the process. The Cambridge-educated journalist-turned-presenter is also known for giving students a hard time on University Challenge. A published author, he has written a number of successful books including The English: Portrait Of A People.
