Long before Salford-born actress Joanne Whalley enjoyed Tinseltown success in the Nineties with films such as Scandal and Navy Seals, she was a firm fixture on British TV screens. Her career began when, aged ten, she won a role in Coronation Street. This led to bigger parts on Emmerdale Farm, The Singing Detective and nuclear industry drama The Edge Of Darkness, for which she received a BAFTA nomination. It was in her first Hollywood picture, 1988's Willow, that she met future husband, Val Kilmer. Their on-screen characters fell in love, and the two followed suit - marrying and going on to have two children, Mercedes and Jack, before divorcing in 1996. The dark-haired beauty made a return to UK TV in 2005 with the BBC thriller Child Of Mine, before scoring several other parts, including Queen Mary in The Virgin Queen, and a starring role in tragic love dramaLife Line. Pink Floyd fans may also recognise her from the band's surreal 1982 film Pink Floyd The Wall, in which she played a groupie.
