Cornwall-born actor John Nettles has been a constant presence on UK screens for the past three decades. After starting out in theatre - a passion he discovered while studying at Southampton University - he broke into TV with small parts in such Seventies shows as The Liver Birds and Enemy At The Door. Then in 1981 he landed the role that would catapult him to fame and keep him busy for the next ten years: policeman Jim Bergerac in Jersey-set crime drama Bergerac. After a stint on the road with the Royal Shakespeare Company, John returned to the small screen in 1995 with what would become the second long-term part of his career: DCI Tom Barnaby in ITV drama Midsomer Murders. John has one grown-up daughter, Emma, with his first wife Joyce, a casting director. He married for a second time in 1995, to Cathryn Sealey.
