Duchess of Cornwall laughs off dogged designs on her scarf

Being a country lady and great animal lover, the Duchess of Cornwall took it all in her stride when an over enthusiastic police dog took a fancy to her scarf.

Gunner, a 16-month-old German Shepherd, took hold of the smart woollen accessory and attempted to snaffle it during Camilla's visit to the Metropolitan Police dog training centre at Keston, Kent.

His handler PC Matt Geeves groaned: "This always happens to me… He's embarrassed".

But the royal, who minutes earlier had been treated to an impeccable display of dog handling involving Gunner, clearly found the incident quite amusing.

"The Duchess adores animals, especially dogs and horses, and had a fabulous day. She wasn't phased one bit and I think she rather fancied taking one or two of the puppies home with her," said an aide.

During her tour, Camilla inspected a framed letter written in pencil by Prince Harry, then seven years old, thanking the police handlers for performing at his birthday party. "I enjoyed the display very much and so did my friends," he'd written.

Working with animals is par for the course for royals, and Camilla clearly relishes the contact even when, like 16-month-old Gunner, they get a tad over excited. The German Shepherd didn't entirely disgrace himself, though. Earlier in the day he behaved impeccably during a dog handling display
