Princess Victoria celebrates name day with fiancé Daniel at her side

Crown Princess Victoria shared her name day celebrations with the man she is to wed, Daniel Westerling, for the first time on Thursday.

And despite the overcast skies above the royal palace in Stockholm, Swedes turned out in force to congratulate their future queen and catch a glimpse of her new fiance, the gym owner who will become Prince Daniel, Duke of Vastergotland, when the couple tie the knot next summer.

It was 35-year-old Daniel's first official engagement since the couple announced, on February 24, that they are to wed. In a sign of his changed status within the royal family, he took his place beside Queen Silvia as Victoria greeted well-wishers.

In keeping with tradition Victoria entered the palace courtyard at noon to greet members of the public gathered there and to accept flowers from a military band. Later, the couple joined King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia at a banquet to mark 'Victoriadagen'.
