Barack and the Bunny share a quick word at White House egg roll

He's not really supposed to be tucking into Easter eggs - after all one of the duties of Barack Obama 's personal aide Reggie Love is to intercept any chocolate treats passed his boss on engagements - but Easter weekend would have been the perfect time for the US President to indulge his sweet tooth.

Whatever they were discussing, the presidential chat with Easter Bunny caused much amusement at the traditional White House Egg Roll and had the crowd falling about laughing.

In a custom dating from 1878 children are allowed to push coloured eggs over the White House's manicured lawns using wooden spoons.

To make sure the emphasis wasn't just on sweets, self-styled Mom-in-chief Michelle had also organised a number of healthy activities for their excited young guests.

"We've got yoga, we've got dancing, we've got storytelling, we've got Easter egg decorating," said chatelaine of the executive mansion, before adding for the benefit of her hoops-obsessed spouse: "Oh, we've got basketball".

That announcement delighted the most powerful man on the planet, who greeted the news with a raise of his arm and a cheer. The thrills didn't stop there as the First Family including First Grandma – Michelle's mother Marian Robinson – boogied to the sounds of Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie.

"It was a special moment in time as I got to see Michelle, Malia and Sasha dancing and singing with me to my songs!" exclaimed the pop diva, who'd been invited to begin her set by performing the national anthem.
