Super-stylish Michelle showcases sleek new 'do as 'frumpy' Barack talks fashion

Already hailed as a style icon, America's fashionable First Lady Michelle Obama debuted an elegant new hairstyle on Tuesday.

Her chic new bobbed do, cropped short at the back and with a sweeping fringe, perfectly accompanied her patterned white dress – another sleeveless number that showcased the toned arms she once flexed as a joke during a formal dinner.

And with such a sleek classic look, it was easy to see why Michelle is often compared to one of her predecessors, fashion icon Jackie Kennedy.

The new hairstyle was unveiled when the mum-of-two, her husband President Obama and the couple's daughters, Malia and Sasha, attended a country music concert in the White House's East Room.

It featured performances from artists including Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss.

His wife's universally applauded style is not lost on America's leader, who recently addressed his own approach to fashion.

"Here's my attitude. Michelle, she looks fabulous. I'm a little frumpy," the Harvard Law School graduate said this week in response to criticism he wore 'dad jeans' to throw the first pitch at a recent baseball game.

"I hate to shop," the 47-year-old added. "Those jeans are comfortable. And for those of you who want your president to look great in his tight jeans, I'm sorry. I'm not the guy."

He went on to reveal that: "basically, up until a few years ago, I only had four suits."
