The First Lady looked stunning in a red petal print silk gown by Alexander McQueen.

Cementing her fashion icon status Michelle combined glamour with her own daring dress sense.

Kate Betts, author of the book Everyday Icon: Michelle Obama and the Power of Style explained Michelle's choice:

"Red is an obvious colour because in China it means good luck, but you expect an American or an American-based designer for an occasion like this. But she's always surprising, and that's why we're all riveted by her."
