Fresh from his dramatic RAF mission to rescue Russian sailors, Prince William joins his family for a very special party at Buckingham Palace.Looking relaxed and happy at the gathering ahead of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations next year, the action man royal modestly told guests he was just part of a team.

His wife the Duchess of Cambridge, threatened to steal the show, dazzling in a green £1,400 Mulberry dress stamped with peace signs. The reception was a curtain-raiser allowing the 300 journalists, who will cover the royal celebrations, to meet the number one family in the land. The Queen even broke protocol by allowing tweets to be sent from inside the Palace from a specially designated “Tweet Suite”.

During the night, the royals mingled with some of the most well-known faces on British screens including This Morning favourite Phillip Schofield, who was seen laughing with the Duchess of Cornwall, and Fearne Cotton.  The Radio 1 DJ  later tweeted that William had asked her to give him a shout out on her show.

While the evening clearly inspired the guests, it seems the glitz of the media life also left its mark on a couple of the royals.Immediately afterwards, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall swapped reception for red carpet  as they attended a royal showing of Hugo at London’s Leicester Square Odeon.
