Regal splendour for the Danish Royals at New Year

This time last year, Princess Mary of Denmark missed her annual New Years gala as she was heavily pregnant with twins, Josephine and Vincent.

But fast forward twelve months and the brunette has recovered her figure and was ready to dazzle in full royal regalia.

Accompanied by her debonair husband, Frederik, Mary swept through the doors of Christian VII's Palace on New Year's Day in an elegant wine-hued velvet dress. The crystal belt emphasised her narrow waist.

The look was completed by a ruby tiara owned by her husband's late grandmother, Queen Ingrid, and a weighty elephant pendant, which represents Denmark's highest rank, the Order of the Elephant.

Frederik, the heir to the throne, was equally impressive decked out in full military attire and a feather topped hat.

The couple were flanked by other members of the Danish royal family, including Queen Margrethe II and her husband Henrik, the Prince Consort.

Mary's popular sister-in-law, French-born Marie, had to sit out the event as she and Joachim- Frederik's brother- are expecting their second child.
