Hours after landing on the Falklands Islands, Prince William was pictured studiously planning a flight route with colleagues. A little while later, Flight Lieutenant Wales, as he's known in the military, was behind the controls of a powerful Sea King helicopter for his first flight on Saturday.
In the coming weeks, William will call the RAF's modest Mount Pleasant Complex his home. Working as part of a team, he and his fellow rescue pilots will be stationed to save sailors and civilians stranded at sea.
His wife the Duchess of Cambridge will also be hard at work during his absence.
Kate will carry out her a engagement on February 14 in Liverpool. She will tour the facilities of Alder Hey's Children Hospital, and in her role as patron of Action on Addiction, will also pay a visit to the alcohol-free Brink bar.
