Princess Charlene has a ball in Shanghai

Monaco's athletic new princess took to volleyball like a fish to water during a trip to China.

Princess Charlene, a former Olympic swimmer and global ambassador for the Special Olympics movement, was persuaded on to the court at a school for disabled children in Shanghai.

And despite looking shy, Prince Albert’s graceful wife held her own on the gymnasium floor.

The visit to China comes just shortly her wonderful welcome in Australia.

She had inaugurated an exhibition titled "Grace Kelly: Style Icon" in honour of Albert's late mother and was greeted by hundreds of residents all clamouring to get a glimpse of her.

Charlene describes the Special Olympics – an international movement made up of 4 million athletes with intellectual disabilities – as “close to my heart”.

“It uses the power of sport to make incredible changes in the lives of people with intellectual disabilities while transforming attitudes around the world," she once said.
