Barack Obama goes wild with the first family at the White House

This wasn't the president's usual way of addressing the public.

Pulling faces and baring his teeth at the audience, Barack Obama got firmly in character as he gave a reading of Where the Wild Things Are.

With a little help from wife Michelle, daughters Malia and Sasha and the family dog Bo, the president kept thousands of children entertained at the White House's annual Easter egg roll.

Yoga, games, and cooking demonstrations were all part of the fun, but the main event was the traditional rolling of eggs across the lawn with long-handled wooden spoons.

There were live musical performances – though not from One Direction, who reportedly had to turn down an invitation to attend the event as they had prior commitments in Australia.

Mr Obama even got to indulge his passion for basketball, shooting some hoops with the Harlem Globetrotters.

The sporty US leader did a few push-ups each time a player scored a slam dunk.
