Princess Estelle stars in granddad's birthday celebrations

Celebrations for the birthday of Sweden's King Carl Gustaf featured a surprise guest this year.

His newborn granddaughter Princess Estelle lit up his 66th birthday with an unplanned appearance on the balcony of Stockholm's royal palace.

Estelle's parents, Crown Princess Victoria and her husband Daniel, weren't originally scheduled to take part in the balcony display.

But the proud couple just couldn't resist bringing along their little girl and showing her off to the delighted crowds who had gathered to get a glimpse of the royal family.

Looking adorable in a frilly pink hat and tights, Sweden's future queen was on her best behaviour during her first public engagement.

The impromptu display was the perfect warm up for the princess' much-anticipated baptism.

Sweden will celebrate yet again when the ceremony takes place on May 22 .
