Bride's mother dies two months before Luxembourg royal wedding

With only two months to go until the big day, Countess Stephanie de Lannoy, who is due to marry Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg, has had to deal with some very sad news.

Her mother, Countess Alix de Lannoy (right), passed away on Sunday after suffering a stroke.

The 70-year-old had eight children with her husband Count Philippe, whom she married in 1965.

Her youngest daughter Stephanie announced her engagement to Prince Guillaume in April and is set to walk down the isle on Saturday, October 20.

The Luxembourg royal household has issued a statement, offering their deepest condolences to Count Philippe and his family, saying the family were in their thoughts and prayers.

"Their Royal Highnesses Prince Guillaume, the Grand Duke, the Grand Duchess and the whole family join in the pain of the Count de Lannoy and his beloved family with our sincere and deepest regret."

The sad loss of Countess Alix is not expected to alter plans for the royal wedding.
