David Cameron's low-key birthday with Samantha

Walking hand in hand through the streets of Birmingham, David Cameron celebrated his 46th birthday in a very low-key manner.

The Prime Minister, who is in the city for the Conservative Party conference, was surprised by his wife Samantha, who took him out to celebrate the special occassion.

The couple were spotted leaving the Diwan Balti restaurant, after enjoying a delicious curry dinner.

They were enjoying some alone time away from their three children, Nancy, eight, Arthur six, and Florence, two.

Earlier in the day, he said: "I'm looking forward to Samantha coming back to Birmingham and I'm hoping she's going to take me out for a balti."

Mr Cameron was also treated to a special cake by his work colleagues.

He posted a picture on Twitter of him laughing with Foreign Secretary William Hague after being presented with a birthday cake in the shape of a caterpillar.

"Thanks to my team for squeezing in a quick birthday celebration on this very hectic day," the caption accompanying the snap read.
