Princess Leonor turns eight: Spain's future queen through the years

Spain's future queen Princess Leonor made her entrance on October 31 2005 in Madrid at 1.46am, and in a modern move, her birth was announced to the press via text message.

Eight years have passed since then, and Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia's elder daughter is growing into a well-rounded little girl with impeccable manner and poise.

She has been preparing for her role as the future monarch by studying a number of languages and partaking in extra curricular activities that will stand her in good stead for her life of duty.

The cute youngster has been studying Mandarin, the world's most spoken language, and speaks English with her grandmother Queen Sofia and her English nanny.

As Leonor celebrates her eighth birthday on Thursday, we take a look at the little girl over the years.
