Prince William and Duchess Kate receive gifts for Prince George in Scotland.
The Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, was given a very Scottish gift for Prince George as she visited the country on Thursday.
William, 31, and Kate, 32, were seen beaming as they accepted the present at MacRosty Park where they were greeted by crowds of adoring locals. The large cuddly toy came with its very own kilt, the pleated, knee-length garment which originated as the traditional dress for boys and men in the Scottish Highlands in the 16th century.
Among the other gifts the couple received for ten-month-old George were a corgi soft toy, in recognition of the breed of dogs that his great grandmother the Queen loves so much, and a copy of children's book Jake's Bones, for him to read when he is older. The 12-year-old author was rather pleased he got the opportunity to present the piece of literature himself.
Both royals waved to crowds and accepted various flags while greeting fans at the restored gardens, where they unveiled a plaque which recognises the park as a Field in Trust. On the rest of their itinerary for the day was an afternoon outing to Glenturret Distillery where they sampled a tipple of Famous Grouse whisky and mingled with local representatives of the community at a reception.
There they had the chance to learn about the country’s national drink, and also bottled their own malt at Scotland’s oldest distillery, established in 1775. Finally, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the village of Forteviot to enjoy a fete. Based in the foothills of the Highlands, it was once the capital of Scotland and is now the site of an archaeological dig.
John Dewar, Lord Forteviot and his wife Luisa Ramazzotti accompanied the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on what was their first joint public engagement since the royal tour of Australia and New Zealand.
The couple’s first stop was at the Strathearn Community Campus. While in Scotland Prince William and Kate are known as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn, and Thursday's trip was the first time they have graced the region since they tied the knot in April 2011.
