The Countess of Wessex brightens rainy day in Oxfordshire

The Countess of Wessex brightened a drizzly day in Oxford on Friday as she visited Wantage Market with her husband Prince Edward.Despite the grey weather Sophie looked radiant in a turquoise Emilia Wickstead coat dress and nude L.K. Bennett heels and was seen beaming out from under her large cobalt umbrella.

The rain also didn't deter the scores of flag-waving royal fans turned out the greet the couple in the historic market square which features a statue of King Alfred, who was the King of Wessex.Prince Edward turns 50: ten facts about the royalSophie and Edward have been touring the Saxon kingdom of Wessex to mark the Earl's 50th birthday and earlier in the day they visited Dorchester Abbey, where the Oxford Historic Churches Trust was also celebrating its 50th.

"They are just so lovely and normal," said local resident Gillian Hood, who looked on as Sophie helped cut a birthday cake. Prior to their day out on Friday, Sophie and Edward conducted a royal visit to Gloucestershire.The duo, who are parents to Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn, toured the Three Choirs Vineyards in Newent where they sampled some English sparkling wine.
