D-Day is a key date in the story of WWII. It refers to the Normandy landings of the Allied Forces which took place on 6 June 1944. Troops descended on Normandy beach in Northern France in what was the largest seaborne invasion in history. The operation began the invasion of German-occupied western Europe - an attack that lasted 11 months and took the allies all the way to Berlin.
