Prince Félix and Princess Claire of Luxembourg have christened their baby daughter Princess Amalia. The religious ceremony took place at the Saint Férreol Chapel in Lorgues – the south-eastern French city where the family-of-three reside. Shortly before 10am on Saturday 12 July, guests were seen arriving at the chapel, including Félix's parents and Luxembourg's reigning couple, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria-Teresa.

Germany-born Claire's parents Hartmut and Gabriele had also flown over especially for the baptism of their royal grandchild. The star of the show baby Amalia – who was baptised Amalia Gabriela Maria Teresa in honour of her grandmothers – seemed oblivious to the excitement she was causing among Luxembourg's royal family, as she slept peacefully for most of the intimate affair. Her proud father Prince Félix, 30, brimmed with pride as he cradled his firstborn close and showed her off to his family. Princess Claire, 29 – who coordinated with her daughter in a beautiful white dress – looked just as elated as she stood next to her husband and cooed over their one-month-old.

Félix's younger sister Princess Alexandra, 23, was chosen as the godmother while Claire's older brother, also called Felix, was named as the godfather. Other members of the Grand Ducal family who attended included Félix's other siblings – his older brother Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and his wife Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie, Félix's younger brother Prince Louis and his wife Princess Tessy, as well as 22-year-old Prince Sébastien.

It has been just less than a month since Amalia was welcomed into the world, but the royal baby has already caused a buzz in her home country. The little bundle of joy made her first high-profile appearance when she left the hospital in Luxembourg at two days old, proudly presented by her parents. Born on 15 June, Amalia "weighed 2.95kg and measured 50cm at birth," according to a statement released by the royal palace. "The young princess will bear the names Amalia, Gabriela, Maria Teresa," it added. Since Prince Félix and Princess Claire's wedding in September 2013, the couple have been living in the south of France at the Château Les Crostes.
