The Countess of Wessex announces 50th birthday plans

The Countess of Wessex will mark her 50th birthday on 20 January by attending two public engagements with her husband Prince Edward. The royal couple will attend the engagements in support of The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Trust and charity Tomorrow's People.The Earl and Countess will first visit the Tomorrow's People Social Enterprises at St Anselm's Church in Kennington, London to meet staff and supporters at work on the flower stall, coffee mob and market garden.Sophie is a patron of the national employment charity, which works in local communities to help disadvantaged adults and young people to get and keep a job.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex are confirmed to attend two engagements

Sophie and Edward will be greeted by school children and tour the different enterprises, which offer training and development for young people and adults aiming to get into work.The Countess will also be presented with a birthday cake by a former Tomorrow's People client who now works at the local bakery and receive flowers from the charity's flower stall.The couple will then proceed to The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine to see demonstrations of the Avoidable Blindness Programme of The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust. They will meet with eye care students and take part in a presentation of "Peek", a portable eye examination kit which turns a smart phone into a comprehensive eye exam tool that takes high resolution images of the eye.

The engagements will coincide with Sophie's 50th birthday

Sophie and Edward's day will culminate with a reception for students, staff and supporters of the programme.It will be a busy birthday for the Countess, who has also been confirmed to visit Finland with her husband at the beginning of February. British Monarchy revealed the news on Twitter on Tuesday, writing: "The Earl and Countess of Wessex will visit #Finland at the beginning of February 2015 @ukinfinland".

"TRH will carry out engagements for @intaward in #Helsinki and will visit #Lapland to see the Finnish military undergo Arctic training".
