The unusual gifts received by the Queen and Prince Charles in 2014

A Game of Thrones statue, sombreros and a leather flying jacket are just a few of the unusual gifts revealed to have been received by the Queen, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall in 2014. The royal family are presented with countless gifts during their official duties, and it appears some people make an effort to ensure their gift is one to remember. In the case of the Queen, one of her more memorable gifts includes a miniature version of the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones, following her visit to the show's set in Belfast.

The monarch and the Duke of Edinburgh were also presented with a number of gifts from their first meeting with Pope Francis in April, including a copy of a papal decree from 1679 and three pontifical models in bronze, silver and gold. The Queen also left the Vatican with a special gift for her great-grandson Prince George, as Pope Francis gave the youngster an engraved orb with the cross of St Edward above it, which the Queen said he would be "thrilled by…when he is a little older". Her son Prince Charles is also no stranger to unique gifts; the 66-year-old and the Duchess of Cornwall were presented with sombreros on their visit to Colombia in October, and were good sports as they donned the matching hats for their visit to Museo del Oro.

Additional gifts of note from the visit included a pair of maracas, adult and child size ponchos, and a set of plates from the President and First Lady of Mexico. The royal couple also received a number of traditional Canadian items from their four-day visit to the country in May; with a Stetson, moccasin slippers and a mini leather flying jacket just a few of the more unique gifts.

In Canada, Charles and Camilla received 27 gifts for Prince George, including a plastic toy camel and a pair of slippers.The Queen has received many unusual gifts during her reign, including a number of animals such as jaguars and sloths from Brazil, two black beavers from Canada and an elephant called Jumbo from the Cameroon.
